Crystal Cove Trail is a scenic hiking trail located in Crystal Cove State Park, Orange County, California. It is a moderately easy trail that spans 3.2 miles out-and-back. This makes it an excellent choice for a half-day hike or a leisurely stroll with your pup. The trail is well-marked, accessible, and best of all dog-friendly!
Crystal Cove State Park is home to miles of pristine coastline, canyons, and lush valleys. There is also an expansive and stunning view of the Pacific Ocean from the bluff trail. The trail is home to a diverse array of plant and wildlife species and boasts over 2,400 acres of wilderness. This includes coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and riparian habitats.
There are tide pools to explore for beach lovers, however, dogs are not allowed at the beach. You will find many posted signs discouraging you from bringing dogs on the beach. Dogs can disturb the natural environment and harm the plants and animals living in it.
If you plan to hike the trail with your dog, be aware that dogs are required on a leash. Additionally, the leash should not be longer than six feet at all times. There are no water stations on the trail so remember to bring water for you and your dog.
When it comes to parking, there are several options available. The main parking lot is located at the Crystal Cove Historic District, and there is a $15 fee to park for the day. However, if you’re willing to walk a bit, there are several free parking spots available along Pacific Coast Highway.
