Millard Falls Trail is a short, easy, and dog-friendly trail nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains near Altadena, CA. This roughly 1.5-mile out-and-back trail takes you through a shaded forest perfect for the warmer seasons. You’ll also encounter multiple stream crossings with boulders weaving though the narrow paths.

The uneven terrain may make it difficult for shorter/smaller dogs to traverse it so expect to carry them in certain areas. Depending on whether there has been recent rains or not, the streams at Millard Falls Trail maybe shallow enough to allow you to easily hop on rocks to cross to the other side.

At the end of this short trail, you can hangout with your pup on top of one of the boulders while enjoying the 50-foot waterfall. It’s a great place to relax and cool-off during warm days. However, it’s important to know that weekends and holidays attract a large number of visitors especially during summer months. This can make the narrow paths difficult to enjoy as crowds of people can block the trail. We recommend visiting the trail during the weekdays to avoid the crowds.

Parking at Millard Falls Trail can be limited, so it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot. There is a small designated parking area near the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly. Some hikers also park along the nearby streets, being mindful of any parking restrictions.

Millard Falls Trail offers a camping area that doesn’t allow reservations so it’s on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, there are vault toilets available for use at the start of the trail.
