The Grand Canyon National Park draws millions of visitors every year from all over the world. Located in Arizona, the park boasts a massive canyon that stretches for 215 miles and is up to 18 miles wide in certain places.

According to the NPS website, plate tectonics uplifted the area around 70 to 30 million years ago, resulting in the creation of the Colorado Plateau. Then, about 5-6 million years ago, the Colorado River started to carve its way down into the plateau. The result is a breathtaking landscape of colorful rock formations, dramatic cliffs, and deep gorges unlike anything on earth.

It’s important to be aware of the park’s pet regulations. Dogs are allowed on all trails above the rim, but must be kept on a leash at all times. This is to protect both your dog and the park’s wildlife.

It’s worth noting that only service dogs are permitted below the rim, on park buses, or in park buildings. Dogs can find the terrain and weather conditions extremely challenging and dangerous. Additionally, their presence could easily disturb the park’s delicate ecosystem.

With its rich history, the Grand Canyon National Park is a must-see destination for anyone looking to experience the wonders of the American West.
